Physical Therapist

Luciana Segantin Lopes joined Miami Neurological Institute as a physical therapist in March 2011.

Segantin Lopes is trained in manual physical therapy, which is a specialized form of physical therapy delivered with the hands as opposed to a device or machine. Through the use of soft tissue manipulation and joint mobilization techniques, she is better able to optimize a patient's level of function. This eclectic approach to physical therapy treatment is evidence based, proving that patients have better outcomes. Studies have shown that the combination of exercise and manual physical therapy is most effective.

Previously, Segantin Lopes worked at B&V Therapro Associates in Miami and Mount Sinai Hospital in Miami Beach. She has been a physical therapist for 17 years, including a research assistant position with the National Institutes of Health (NIH). There, she was part of two projects: irradiation therapy and complications associated with musculoskeletal diseases and stroke protocol.

Segantin Lopes received her bachelor's degree in physical therapy from the University of Londrina State in Brazil where she also earned a Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) focused on treating burns and cosmetic and reconstructive surgery. She received a Neuro-Developmental Treatment (NDT) certification in 2003 and holds certifications in Advances in Manual Therapy, Hydrotherapy, and Lymphatic Drainage. She speaks English, Portuguese and Spanish.
