MIAMI NEUROLOGICAL INSTITUTE EXPANDS AVENTURA HEADQUARTERS

Addition of Pain Management and Physical Rehabilitation Services Completes Founder s Vision of Offering Comprehensive Neurological Services under One Roof

AVENTURA, FL (December 27, 2010) - Miami Neurological Institute (www.miamini.com), a private practice specializing in spine, brain and nerve disorders, today announced that it has expanded its Aventura headquarters to include an in-house, state-of-the-art physical rehabilitation center and treatment suite for pain management procedures and therapies. The new location is at 21097 NE 27th Court, Suite 540 on the campus of Aventura Hospital and Medical Center.

"At a time when health care is becoming more and more fragmented, we developed and implemented a Center where people suffering from brain, spine or nerve issues can receive an array of high-quality treatments under one roof," said Santiago Figuereo, M.D., a board certified neurological surgeon and founder of Miami Neurological Institute.

Dr. Figuereo has particular expertise in minimally invasive neurosurgical procedures of the brain, spine, and peripheral nerves. He has developed a specialized interest in endoscopic procedures for intracranial, skull base, and pituitary tumors and is nationally recognized for his expertise in the surgical management of movement disorders, including deep brain stimulation for Parkinson's disease and surgical procedures for epilepsy.

"Treatment for neurological conditions does not automatically mean surgery. Unless there is an urgent need such as stroke or trauma - we want to explore all non-surgical options with our patients before recommending one of our minimally invasive surgery options," said Dr. Figuereo. "When surgery is the best option, we now have the resources within our practice to follow our patients through their surgery and then offer them the latest treatments for post-surgical rehabilitation therapy and pain management so that we can be even more involved in their total recovery."
